Needing the Teacher's Help

  • For a Medium Structure Classroom: If the student needs any help from the teacher they are to quietly raise their hand, but if they are waiting to be helped they are encouraged to have their hand down working on another part of the assignment until the teacher indicates by asking the students who was next in asking for help. This will help promote a sense of truthfulness, respect, and politeness for the cooperating students who need help. It is also encouraged that the students around the student needing help, can scaffold their classmate, but are never to just give the student struggling the answer.

  • Low Structure Classroom: If the student needs any help from the teacher they are to raise their hand or one at a time can leave their desk to talk with the teacher about a problem they are having on an assignment. If they are waiting they should know to be patient until the teacher is available, and then they can attempt to get the teacher's attention by raising their hand or getting up to speak with the teacher. It is highly encouraged for the students to scaffold each other quietly if the teacher is busy at the time.

  • High Structure Classroom: If the student needs any help from the teacher they are required to quietly raise their hand, but if they are waiting to be helped they must have their hand down working on another part of the assignment until the teacher indicates by asking the students who was next in asking for help. This will help promote a sense of truthfulness, respect, and politeness for the cooperating students who need help. Students may not talk to others during independent work, so they are to wait until they are assisted on the assignment.
