End of Class - Dismissal

  • For a Medium Structure Classroom: The students should be finishing up their work in order to either turn it in or put it away for homework. Once directed by the teacher that it is time to clean up, the students may put away their things, and should stay quietly in their seat until the teacher finishes the feedback for the day by addressing the advanced organizer, guiding question, or other comments for the next class meeting. Once the teacher finishes their comments, the teacher will dismiss half of the class first then dismiss the other half as soon as it looks like most students are outside of the classroom.

  • Low Structure Classroom: The students should be finishing up their work in order to either turn it in or put it away for homework. Once directed by the teacher that it is time to clean up, the students may put away their things and should know to be seated quietly until the teacher finishes the feedback for the day. Once the teacher finishes their comments the teacher will dismiss all the students at once, and they should be able to organize themselves to not crowd the doorway.

  • High Structure Classroom: The students should be finishing up their work in order to either turn it in or put it away for homework. (If put away for homework, the students should be directed to place it in an organized binder specifically used for the classroom.) Once directed by the teacher that it is time to clean up, the students must quietly put away their things and should be seated quietly during the teacher's announcements or feedback for the day. Once the teacher finishes their comments the teacher will dismiss two rows at a time to leave the classroom and will do this until all the students leave the classroom. (Change the sequence of rows everyday to give different students a chance to leave the room sooner.)
