Ms. Cuellar's Classroom Management Plan
From Group to Independent Work (Vice Versa)
During this transition the students may be excessively louder when moving from group to independent work and independent work to group work. Therefore my preference for this transition may be a medium to high structure classroom in order to maintain control of the students.
-
Conversation: As the students transition from group to independent, they will hear for my attention signal for any instructions given about the transition. The communication should be stopped when I finish my attention signal, and the students should be at a level 0 to 1 in their conversations. If the students are transitioning from independent work to group work then they are given more leeway to have a voice level up to 2, but that should be after hearing the teacher's instructions about what they are to accomplish in the group work.
-
Help: Once the students are settled down doing their work, the students should ask for help by raising their hands, and if they are waiting to be assisted, then they are to wait patiently, quietly, and remain in their seats (unless for an emergency). It is preferable for the students to stop raising their hands if the teacher is still helping another student, and other students should decide who raised their hands first when indicated by the teacher.
-
Activity: The students are to work cooperatively with their group mates in order to accomplish their task or assignment. When transitioning to independent work the students will then work independently to do the assigned work. It may take up to two minutes maximum to transition from group to independent work and vice versa.
-
Movement:There may be a movement in desks from both group to independent and independent to group. Students are able to move freely within the classroom if they need anything that will help them complete the assignment, but they are not to abuse this privilege to avoid from doing work. Students are to ask permission from the teacher if they need to leave the classroom to go to the restroom or get a drink of water. (Emergencies are unavoidable, and students are able to leave if feeling unwell.)
-
Participation: Students are to work on their assignments for both group and independent work. During independent work the students are to do their assignments individually without the help of their classmates. In group work, students are encouraged to speak and participate with group mates in order to complete the assignment.
